Being an Animator

Here's a link to a post by Cameron Fielding (a 3D animator at DreamWorks).
He talks very honestly about the obstacles and unforeseen pitfalls of being in the animation industry and the difficulties in relocating and preparing for work as you travel from country to country and contract to contract. It's long but it's worth reading.

Summary of his article:


  • Be willing to take a risk even if it seems insane.



  • Expand your skill set outside of animation.



  • If you can't do it at work - you have to do it in your own time.



  • You can't decide if moving overseas is the right thing or not by sitting on the couch and thinking about it.... you only know by doing it.



  • Ask lots of questions and don't be afraid to ask for more.
