Throughout his works, Seth transforms an poignant inner life into observant and witty graphic stories. The Old Man and the Sea is a 1999 paint-on-glass-animated short film directed by Russian animator Aleksandr Petrov, based on the 1952 novel of the same name by Ernest Hemingway. The film won many awards, including the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film.

Work on the film took place in Montreal over a period of two and a half years and was funded by an assortment of Russian, Canadian and Japanese companies. French and English-language soundtracks to the film were released concurrently.

"Do the Bartman" is a song from the 1990 album The Simpsons Sing the Blues, featuring the voice cast of the American animated television series The Simpsons. It was performed by The Simpsons cast member Nancy Cartwright (the voice of Bart Simpson), with backing vocals from American singer Michael Jackson, alongside additional vocals from Dan Castellaneta (voice of Homer Simpson). Jackson also produced the song, which was written by American recording artist Bryan Loren, and Geffen Records released it as a single on November 20, 1990.

Despite receiving much radio airplay in the United States, "Do the Bartman" was never officially released as a single there. It topped the charts in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Norway, and the United Kingdom. The song additionally reached the top 10 in Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Spain, and Sweden. A music video, directed by Brad Bird, was released for the song in 1991. The video became a hit on the American network MTV, and received a nomination at the 1991 MTV Video Music Awards. It was also number 9 goofy great one hit wonders in an episode of the VH1 series One Hit Wonders. This music video was directed by Brad Bird, with dance choreography by Michael Chambers. Nobody from the staff of The Simpsons wanted to direct it because they were busy doing the show, but Bird finally agreed to do it after having been asked four times. He had a very short amount of time to finish the video because it was supposed to coincide with the release of The Simpsons Sing the Blues.

The entire music video was storyboarded in only two days in the United States. Bird then got on a plane to Budapest, Hungary, where the video was animated by Varga Studio. They thought the video was going to be animated as simply as the original The Simpsons shorts, shown on The Tracey Ullman Show, so when Bird told them that it was going to be done in full animation with no repeated scenes, they "went into deep shock".

The animators added the wraparound at the beginning to set Bart against the crowd and put the video in "some sort of context." "Hardest thing I’ve ever done. Full animation. To music. Banged out in a few weeks. In a foreign country. With a ton of different characters, a crew that had never drawn them before & a simultaneous world TV premiere weeks away. Oy. Varga Studios pulled it off.". - Brad Bird

There is an alternative version of the music video that removes the references to Michael Jackson's "hair strand" (by not including said hair strand in frame), people dancing to the Bartman on a cruise ship with the Statue of Liberty in the background moving side to side with the rhythm of the song and replaces it with extra frames of the Springfield "cool kids" dancing along. The alternative version also removes the lyric, "She can do it, you can do it, so can I".

A track from the same album titled "Deep, Deep Trouble", was also given the animated music video treatment.

X-men Re-Animated:
Is a non-profit collaborative project, celebrating and re-animating the classic 90’s X-men cartoon intro.

The X-men were created in 1963, inspired by the civil rights movement of the time. This band of outcasts focused on the fight for equality. On Oct 31st 1992 the X-men were reborn as an animated series. These super heroes were diverse, feared and hated for being different; their struggle was one that resonated with millions of unheard voices. The X-men gave us hope and changed our perspective on being perceived as “other.” While this fight persists, we are all learning not only to speak up, but listen.

Producing this project gave me the honor of working with exceptional animators whose imagination and lives were similarly captured by X-Men TAS. Their personal expression, love and belief in this series is here and could not have been done without their contribution.

According to Animayo's director, Damián Perea: "To take an Animayo winning work, first to the Oscar® Shortlist, and then to have it nominated, is something that comforts and rewards, in some way, the work of the entire Festival programming team, because it not only increases the visibility and global prestige of Animayo, but also draws more attention to the event, generating interest from filmmakers, sponsors, and audiences." He also highlights "the quality and selection criteria that we have once again demonstrated, which will potentially attract more outstanding films and talents in the future. It is an important validation for us, positively influencing our international reputation."

Indeed, Animayo once again demonstrates the magic that characterizes it, namely its commitment to quality and talent in the film and animation sector. A leading festival for many years, it has stood out for excellence through its awards. Its history includes the selection of several works for the Oscar® Preselection and Shortlist, emphasizing its commitment to quality and talent in the film and animation sector, including: Late Afternoon, produced by Nuria González-Blanco and directed by Louise Bagnall, won the top award at Animayo Gran Canaria 2018 and was nominated for an Oscar®. Of Irish nationality, it is a 2D animation dealing with Alzheimer's disease in a different way. The short film Kapaemahu was on the Oscar® shortlist for 2021 after winning the Animayo 2020 Jury Grand Prize. Kapaemahu, (USA, 2020), a collaboration between Native Hawaiian educator and cultural practitioner Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu with Emmy® and GLAAD award-winning filmmakers Dean Hamer and Joe Wilson, under the 2D animation direction of Oscar®-nominee Daniel Sousa. And in 2022, the Australian work An Ostrich Told Me the World is Fake and I Think I Believe It, directed by Lachlan Pendragon, received a “Special Mention from Animayo for Best Stop Motion” and was nominated for the 95th Oscar® Awards.

     

Originating from over 80 countries worldwide, more than 2,000 works of 2D animation, 3D animation, visual effects, experimental film, advertising pieces, animation spots, music videos, video game cinematics, and virtual reality were screened at Animayo 2023. Our Uniform, by Iranian Yegane Moghaddam, and Amarradas, by Spanish Carmen Córdoba González, were the two major winners of the Animayo 2023 Awards. All represented under the quality and prestige criteria of the 2023 International Jury Animayo in the animated short film category, consisting of director, producer, and animator Andreas Deja (jury president), Jan Bubenicek (director, animator, and writer), Denisa Grimmová (stop motion, 2D and 3D director), Albert Barba (animation director), and Laura MacMahon (Senior 3D Animator).

Our Uniform is a mixed-technique short film, 07:23 minutes long, in which, with an original script by Moghaddam, “a young Iranian woman reminisces about her school days through the wrinkles and seams of her old uniform.” Its strong social undertone is the key element of its work, immersing us in a unique and peculiar way in the use of the uniform as a means to standardize a population. The Jury was captivated not only by the theme but also by its unique technique, using fabric as a base to create a universe of color and textures. In fact, it was also recognized with the Best Mixed Technique Award.
