The murder of monarchs

Mirco Chen's first film is complete! I had the pleasure to watch the 40 minute-epic-zombie-horror last Wednesday along with most of the cast and crew, and I must say it was beyond my expectations. I can't wait to see it in local festivals on the big screen.

Special Guest Star

This week at the Animation Studio, we were honored to be visited by a legend. He was the first of a long line of air guardian Autobots. With his particle beam rifle and Mach 4 speed, this old warrior was a fighter to be reckoned with. The one and only, Skyfire!

He was happy to lend his body to us for visual reference on the action-packed music video we're currently working on.

Survivors

This week at the Collideascope Gun Club...

Future Hall of Fame member, Mike Wazowski, takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'. He has taken more bullets to the face then any other competitor.

Mr. Conductor took a heavy beating but survives for another week.

Alas, Mr. Incredible (second generation) has finally fallen after a month of taking damage like no other superhero.

Coraline

This stop-motion animated feature with CG effects has been adapted by LAIKA supervising director Henry Selick from Neil Gaiman's international best-selling children's book Coraline. Mr. Selick is directing the film, and LAIKA Entertainment's director of story Mike Cachuela is co-director of the feature. It's currently in production at LAIKA's Portland animation studio. The music group They Might Be Giants will provide songs for the film.

In Coraline, a young girl walks through a secret door in her new home and discovers an alternate version of her life. On the surface, this parallel reality is eerily similar to her real life -- only much better. But when this wondrously off-kilter, fantastical adventure turns dangerous and her counterfeit parents try to keep her forever, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination, and bravery to get back home.

Thanks to the success of Corpse Bride and W&G, we'll hopefully get to see more great stop-motion films.

Coraline is scheduled to be released in early 2007.
