Montreal animator successfully sues Cinar/Cookie Jar Entertainment in a $5.2-million plagiarism case

Here's a great article about how Claude Robinson got on with life after winning a 14-year battle over rights to his character.
"Each individual creator has a duty to protect their creations. It's an extension of themselves. It was my face, my personality, and the producers pretended they never met me!" - Claude Robinson
He had presented his work to producers at Cinar, who turned down his concept. Sometime later, he saw Cinar's Robinson SucroƩ series and found what he called identical and undeniable similarities with his original pitch.
The awarded settlement includes:
- $607,000 for copyright infringement.
- $1.7 million for profits earned by Cinar and other broadcasting companies.
- $400,000 for psychological distress.
- $1 million in exemplary damages.
- $1.5 million for legal fees.
Here's a clip of the series:

Deceptive Deceptions
A new video Dan Meth made for College Humor, spoofing the wide array of conspiracy videos on the web. Dan wanted to make the most paranoid conspiracy theory with the most absurd logic. Narrated brilliantly by his animator pal Elliot Cowan. I love this sort of stuff, it reminds me of the logic used in the original 1966 Batman movie; "That's it Batman, Sea.... Sea as in Catwoman!"

Princess and the Frog Pencil Tests
[Via Mark Mayerson]
So far (to me), the film seems to be brilliantly animated, but the characters and story seem unappealing and predictable, but hey! Classical animation is back, right?!... right?
Watch more about the film here.
