Twelve years ago I had started to experiment with some stop-motion/classical animation combination in college. I eventually got discouraged and gave up my project, but then shortly after I got inspired by the film Flatworld. The story is about a guy named Matt who starts working on road construction and accidentally cuts through a cable that feeds into the television universe. The ensuing surge opens portals to Flipside, a world decidedly different from his own, and releases a bank robber from a gangster film on TV. Suddenly, Matt and his pets become entangled with the thief and the police in a spectacular and hilarious chase that switches between Flatworld and Flipside.
Using an original blend of flat card cutouts and traditional cel animation, this 30 min. film still holds up very nicely. Most people have never heard of it, but it is a fantastic British Animated Film.
Rodents of Unusual Size (RoUS): no longer confined to the Fire Swamp! According to this BBC Report (with RoUS video!), we've found some terrible, giant rodents being allowed to exist in Papua New Guinea. And we're not talking like a capybara, where it's technically a giant rodent but looks more like an idiotic dog--these are genuine fucking huge rats.
They seem pretty friendly in the video, though, so maybe we shouldn't worry too much about The Princess Bride becoming real for now. At least so long as giants, albinos, and six-fingered men remain in the realm of pure fiction. [Via iwatchstuff]
