Last June I had been attending several different Industry Day / Animation Showcase events. First in Truro's Animediafest, then Sheridan's industry day in Oakville, and then in NBCC's Jaloo Festival in Miramichi hosting their first grand showcase of their Art/Animation & Gaming programs.
I was part of a 5 person panel discussion group, debating and answering questions regarding how to prepare for the industry as an animation artist. But the coolest thing was to meet legendary layout/storyboard artist Scott Caple. His long resume goes as far back as Star Trek 2, Raiders of the Lost Arc and many other 2D/3D animated films & television credits.
To give you some persepective on the geek factor for this, here's 1982's Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan. Watch it at 6:30 min. Scott animated the phaser fire battle between the Enterprise and the Reliant... Isn't that the coolest thing ever?!
Needless to say I was geeking out in his presence and he had many cool stories from 'back in the day' working for Nelvana and Disney.
