Batman: Year One

DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. Animation are continuing their mission of bringing popular comic storylines to life through straight-to-video animated films, which I have been keeping up with quite religiously. The studios have finally worked up to adapting Batman: Year One, Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's critically-acclaimed story of Batman's first months as a vigillanty.

The Hollywood Reporter got theses first stills from the series, and if that doesn't already look decent enough for you, longtime Batman producer/director/designer Bruce Timm commented that it's a "pretty straight forward literal retelling, for which we were able to refer to the comic for about 80 percent of the camera setups." This should at least get the nerd purist in you pleased that it will remain faithful.

Bryan Cranston, Ben McKenzie, Eliza Dushku and Katee Sackhoff make up the somewhat-notable celebrity voice cast, with the Emmy-winning Breaking Bad star voicing Lieutenant Gordon, Southland's McKenzie doing Bruce Wayne, and Dollhouse's Eliza Dushku playing Catwoman.

I first heard of this going into production last December, I can't wait for it. The film is set for a fall release, but will first debut at Comic Con in July, where it will surely delight geek audiences and get them to put up online early reviews for us to see.
