I saw this film a few weeks ago, and I thought it was one of the greatest sci-fi films ever produced. The Main Character through-line is brilliantly portrayed as we watch a sweet, yet ignorant, government employee fumble his way into meaningful growth. It's true that the storyline of the alien he 
makes friends with could have been developed more, and as a result their friendship, but the decision to touch on them lightly keeps this action-packed story from becoming too preachy. We can be thankful that the authors included them at all. A brilliant and complete film that comes with a subtle yet poignant message, that will probably have an inevitably less meaningful sequel.
